Cycling paradise in southern Europe.
The Algarve, Portugal’s southernmost region, is known for its Atlantic beaches and golf resorts. Whitewashed fishing villages on low cliffs overlooking sandy coves were transformed in the 1960s, and now its central coast between Lagos and Faro is lined with villas, hotels, bars and restaurants.
Many WorldTour teams use the Algarve as a base for their training camps and also compete in the Volta ao Algarve, a UCI Pro Series event. The terrain ranges from flat on the coast with more challenging climbs heading inland. Importantly the climate is moderate all year round – even in winter temperatures can reach up to 20°C.
